Adam’s research lies at the intersection of state repression, civil wars, and civil-military relations.
He is particularly interested in how military organizations influence state violence.

Adam received the CDSS Young Scholar Award 2017 for his research project “Analyzing repressive bureaucracies”. The award supports Adam’s research with 2.000 Euros. It honors exceptional achievements in doctoral research and supports professional activities that advance the professionalization and networking of young scientists.

Adam is the recipient of the 2017 Stuart A. Bremer Travel Award. The Award is presented by  the Network of European Peace Scientists (NEPS). It seeks to enhance the exchange of scientific findings between young European and American Peace Scientists. Each year one European graduate scholar is invited to attend the North American conference of the Peace Science Society. Adam receives the Award for his paper on the political and military determinants of US foreign military training.

Last year, Adam received the Dina Zinnes Award for the best graduate paper presented on a SSIP panel at the 2016 ISA Annual Convention.
